Captain John as Iron Man!

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

My wife and I went to see Iron Man yesterday afternoon. Since I was a big Iron Man fan as a kid, I was really looking forward to the movie. I think this might be Marvel Studios best work yet, it was a fantastic movie and Robert Downey Jr. is incredible in the role of Tony Stark. It’s certainly as good as the first Spider Man, which is my other favorite Marvel hero.

Anyway, as an homage to Iron Man, Captain John decided to don a tribute suit and take flight. I had lots of fun doing this one.

Some Older Sketches

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Was digging through some files yesterday and found some older sketches from when I began to draw again a year or so ago, thinking about doing a comic or some kind of creative project. I had a few ideas which I ultimately rejected. Here’s some of that material.

Bird Superhero Character - I had an idea for a bird that was a superhero - kind of a Clark Kent thing going on.

An interesting precursor to Asimov, maybe is this guy HENRI

When my eldest daughter was 4, we did a little project and wrote a children’s book together. I did some drawings of the little girl in the story thinking I would illustrate it. In reality, I want her to do it as a project though.

A more sophisticated version of Captain John?

Lastly, right before I realized I just didn’t have time to pursue animation, I was going to do a short based on this book “Trubloff” I read as a kid, a Russian folk tale about a mouse who plays the Balalaika. So I had done a bunch of drawings of him that I was going to use to build the model. Here’s one.

I kind of like these, I’m glad I’ve learned not to throw stuff away. I had done lots of stuff in college that is long gone now that I wish I still had. Never throw your art away!
