Revisionist History - Reworking Some Early Marooned

Did you know web cartoonists have a unique ability - we can alter time! Mwhahahahaahaaa! Ahem. In all seriousness, unlike a traditional comic, my archive is open to “adjustment” at any time. However this isn’t something I, or probably any cartoonist would take lightly. It’s actually kind of a good thing to see a strip’s progression through story and art over time.

So I didn’t undertake this without some thought. Initially I was not going to do it until the upcoming story arc kind of forced my hand. I’m going to have a continuity/consistency problem with a new character shortly. This is because when I started this strip I had no plan and was flying by the seat of my pants!

But I can fix it, so I will. That means making some actual changes to a couple (and I think it only means 2) of the earlier strips.

In addition, when I first began to produce the strip, I did not have my technical process down, so there are some real problems with the first few strips that really bother me. In addition, they were not made correctly for print, which I hope to someday get this strip in book form. This gives me an opportunity to fix that as well. And it gives me an opportunity to try some new techniques with inking and coloring I’m hoping will work.

So the plan is I’m going to redraw and produce a handful of the first group of strips, with a couple of the strips actually changing slightly. And yeah, this will give me an opportunity to update some of my earliest and weakest artwork. However, it will not be lost. If I do get the chance to get a book done, I’ll save those strips and they will be printed as a bonus feature.

So, with all that long windedness, I’ve updated the first strip. Let me know what you think:

The original will be posted there to for comparison.

The second strip has been updated:
