So you want to get Out of Orbit but you can’t afford it – or you’re not in the U.S. and you fear the shipping will be too much? Never fear! Today I’m announcing I will also be offering a digital download of the complete book!
However, there will be a few caveats. Here’s the deal:
- The digital version will only be available after the printed versions are shipped out. People who buy the printed book get preferential treatment
- The price will be roughly half of the printed version. I have not decided on the actual price yet, but I will let you know.
- Most importantly, there will NOT be any digital rights management on the book. It will be a simple, unprotected PDF. This means I’m putting my trust in you to buy it, but not share it with others. I think most people are pretty cool and if you are really a supporter of Marooned, then you will not break that trust. You’ll even be able to print out your own copy if you so desire. All I will ask is that you do not print copies out for other people.
That’s it. I hope this will allow more people to enjoy the book. I know not everyone was going to be able to buy the printed version. I think this is a good thing for you and for me. It will allow more people to support the comic.
So in light of that, when will it be available? Assuming preorder goes to plan and I get the books in something like the second week of December to ship out, then I would hope the week of Christmas would be when the digital download will be available. It would be nice for you to get it so you can read it on your Christmas holiday right?

I hope to start fleecing…er taking PREorders for the print book next week. Once those ship (3-4 weeks maybe) then the digital orders will open up.
Ooooh…. tempting… but I think I want that sweet, sweet collection of printed pages sitting on my shelf, or coffee table. No wait… I need to buy a coffee table to put it on! Curses. The price just went up AGAIN: book, shipping AND coffee table!
Any chance you can throw a coffee table in so I can save on postage? *kidding*

That’s a pretty awesome idea. I’m still going to get the physical book cause that’s just cool, but one thing I’ve always wanted since I really like the characters and drawing style of Marooned is a background or three to throw up on my computer desktop from time to time. Not sure if you’d be in to making those, but that might be a way to generate a little money from time to time between book printings. I’d gladly pay a buck for an awesome background or something along those lines. Oh ya if it’s an idea you are interested in taking up, don’t forget to make some cool backgrounds that would fit great on my iPhone.
That’s a good idea Chris. I’ve been slow in doing those things because the strip takes most of my time. But once the book is out, I plan to make a little push for donations. It’s been a year and a half and I’ve really asked for nothing.
But I want to give something back for them – so buttons, bookmarks – backgrounds – even sketches depending upon amount.
So that is coming up, and I will definitely do iPhone stuff. Stay tuned!
