So it’s been a year for the strip, and it’s been some time since I gauged interest in original artwork for Marooned. My instinct right now tells me there is still probably not much interest, but things have changed a bit since the last time I asked.

I’d be interested to hear any comments from you, pro or con. Does artwork interest you? Is there a certain price point you’d expect? Does the Asimov painting I just did interest you?

The last time I asked, my strips were basically 4-panel strips in the simpler style. (And those would still be available). The strips now are bigger and a more more detailed obviously. The size is roughly 15.5 x 9.5. It should be noted that the art does not have dialog on it – that goes in on the digital process. I have thought about printing it out on transparencies and putting that on as an overlay. That’s extra work of course, and the cost of a box of transparencies is high.

I was thinking of offering the painting on eBay. In any event, love to hear your comments. I will say that I’m in no rush to sell anything, I’m gauging interest. So I won’t be selling stuff at bargain prices just to move it, I’d much rather hold onto it.

EDIT – Below is a thumbnail of an original piece, with a link to a larger version. I will be posting about the painting auction tomorrow.

Tom, I’m certainly interested in checking out some Marrooned art. I couldn’t spend hundreds of dollars on it but I’m also saving for the Vegas Trek con in August..I just think that some Marrooned would look cool hanging in my computer room with my Trek stuff. I almost inquired if you were interested in selling the Asimov painting after I saw it..

Well let me ask you – which interests you more, the painting or the original strip stuff? I’ll post a picture of one of the latest strips artwork tonight so people can get an idea of what they look like. I’m not averse to letting go the earlier stuff too if people are so inclined.

The price would certainly not be “hundreds of dollars.” I’m guessing I would price the double sized strips (all the current ones I do are considered double or “Sunday” size) at probably $50 and singles at $35.

I’m not sure about the painting yet, but I think that would be a minimum of $50.

Prices wouldn’t include shipping, although I can’t seeing that being too much.

Coincidentally, I almost suggested you sell the painting when you posted it.

Well there has been some interest from other parties in the painting (outside the Marooned site) as well (which is cool and unexpected).

So I think I am going to for sure auction off the painting on eBay. I will post it here before I do (with more pics), in case anyone wants to bid. Most likely the bid will be $50.

I will definitely be doing more of these, as I really enjoyed it (in fact, thinking of doing one tonight, but I gotta finish up Thursday’s strip!)
