Captain John and his robot companion, Asimov, have been stranded on Mars when their ship landed with mechanical problems and insufficient fuel. They soon realized that the mission had been sabotaged. John and Asimov are not what you’d call best buddies, but they learn to get along when unforeseen events happen – like evil robots trying to destroy them, for instance.

Shortly after landing, they met a friendly Martian named Ugo. (There really ARE little green men on Mars!) Ugo subsequently led the guys to an underground settlement where the surviving Martians live, and provided them food and living quarters. There they met Ril, is a young feisty girl Martian who touched John’s heart.

John and Asimov’s stay has been full of adventure. It seems no sooner did they arrive then they were being attacked by strange robots, fighting sickness and meeting unexpected people. On Mars, there is always another mystery around the next corner.

The Characters

Captain John

Wearing his ego as protection against his insecurities, John acts and speaks too quickly and often only thinks of himself. However under the shell of a selfish man is the makings of a truly great man.

John first appears in the opening scene of “In the Shadow of Gordo the Monkienaut!”

Asimov

A robot sporting a highly advanced brain developed by Nanoganics Robotics, Asimov seems to know a lot of things of which John is not aware. He has little use for John’s failings, but is a faithful companion when it’s crunch time.

Asimov first appears in the opening scene of “In the Shadow of Gordo the Monkienaut!”

Ugo the Martian

Ever friendly and happy, Ugo quickly befriended John and Asimov shortly after they landed. He brought them below ground to their Martian settlement which has a breathable atmosphere and food. He appears to be some sort of authority, but to what extent remains unknown.

Ugo first appears in strip #4 in “In the Shadow of Gordo the Monkienaut!”

Ril the Martian Orphan

Ril the Martian Orphan

Ril is a sassy, young orphan girl who gave Captain John quite a rough welcome when he arrived in the Martian refuge. An orphan himself, John took a chance and spoke with Ril, making a connection with her. The fact that this led to Ril’s capture by Bob was very upsetting to John. However, Ril can take care of herself.

Ril first appears in strip #33 in “Diagnostics”

The Geborga

Scientists of great skill, the Geborga apparently destroyed the Mars that was with some kind of time travel experiment. This also nearly killed off their whole race, so that only the scientists who performed the experiment remain. During the conflict with Bob, the Geborga fixed Asimov after he had been shot, and fitted him with their own technology.

The Geborga first show their scientific prowess in strip #55 in “The Saga of Bob”

The Volotrum (The “Dark Ones”)

Dwelling deep in the caverns of Mars, these lumbering tripods are a mystery. They are the natural enemies of the lizard-like Krosa, and the original caretakers of Captain Lian Fisher.

The Dark Ones are first seen deep in the caverns of strip #100 in “Mindquake”

Atha

A red female Anfald Martian, Atha is a healer. She tried to tend to John when he came down with a serious fever, but with his unfamiliar physiology, she was unable to help. Atha acts as a guardian to the orphan Ril.

Atha tries to help John in strip #90 in “Temperatures Rising”

Baro Ambassador Zed

Zed was part of the first Baro landing on Mars where the occupants actually survived, thanks to Ugo and the Geboragan scientists. The Baro are highly intelligent but lack any real common sense. Zed was offered an “upgrade” so that he could live longer and help out John and the Martians. But such a thing is against their law. Only time will tell what Zed will choose.

Ambassador Zed arrives on Mars in “Brains from Another Planet!”

Bob the Robot

Bob is a Nanoganics, Inc. Series 7 Prime Robot – the top of the line – created after Asimov. Obnoxious, violent and angry, he wielded some sort of device called The Time Cube that somewhat resembled a child’s puzzle cube. His plans were thwarted and his disabled chassis was taken into custody by the Geborga.

Bob makes a dramatic first appearance at the End of Episode One.
