Speed Racer and the Mach 5

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Well, I was a huge Speed Racer geek when I was a kid, so I’m really looking forward to the movie tomorrow. I’ve already purchased myself a little Mach 5 toy that I’ve been zooming around my desk in anticipation. So to celebrate the movie, here’s a 3D model of the Mach 5 I did a few years ago in Hash Animation:Master while I was learning the software. They ended up putting on their demo CD and I even got a free jacket out of it. I only wish it were in my garage!

Edit: Found a bunch of renders of the Mach 5 in 3D in various states of progress, including a final one done with some “show models” by a John B. where he took my model and mixed it with his girls. I’ve added those as well.

Mars Sunset… Wait! Who is that!?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

On May 19, 2005, NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Spirit captured this stunning view as the Sun sank below the rim of Gusev crater on Mars… and it captured something else as well! (Hmm, does this explain why a manned mission was sent… makes you wonder…)

Asimov’s 30 Laws of Robotics

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Ok, how fitting is this? The Something Awful folks (snarky forums) have expanded Asimov’s original 3 rules of robotics into 30 rules. I haven’t actually read them yet, the site is blocked here but the preview I saw looked funny. Read the full list here.

I’ll have to see how many are applicable to our own ASIMOV :)

Ugo of Mars - Coloring Page

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

My daughter has been bugging me for a Ugo coloring page so I made one for her by scanning in a ink drawing and then tracing it in Illustrator. I lined it using a charcoal brush to make it a bit more interesting. Share it with your kids - or color it yourself (you KNOW you want to!)
