If you are a new reader, you have jumped in at the perfect time. We’ve just begun a brand new story in Marooned. All you need to know is that Captain John (the spaceman) and Asimov (the robot) have been stranded on Mars. Ugo the Martian (the green guy) has put them up in the Martian underground city Vita, and they live there now. There are other various Martians you’ll meet along the way. Auction for Asimov #2 is on!

Custom Asimov Plush #2 of 4 is now live on eBay. There a bit more than a day left on this special guy. In addition to the plush, you get the certificate, Rag the Viking and Tale of Two Robots. The certificate is signed and will have an Asimov sketch. These are truly one of a kind, so don’t miss your chance. Below is a pic of the actual one being auctioned.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to hang on to the other two for a bit before letting them go. Not sure how long, so for now, this will be the last chance for a bit to get one of these.

Really having fun with these guys! And we are moving the story forward, seems John figured out a way to have Zed come along.

I’ve been having great conversations with Chris Baldwin of Spacetrawler about comedy writing. He’s given me some really good insight and helped me tighten up these latest strips. So many thanks to Chris. He has me thinking in better ways about writing jokes. And I love talking shop with other artists, it’s a blast.

Speaking of which, the next Marooned story will be co-written by Steve Ogden. You know Steve has been a big help in the past. He’s great for helping me see the big picture and generating great ideas. I love working with Steve, so it only makes sense to write a story with him. We’re brainstorming it now.

It’s a little distressing that the C.A.N.S. is a popular feature on their planet…

I’m having a blast writing strips for the Baro. Yesterday I was able to clear my schedule to write on my lunch, and I got the next three strips done. (Feels so good to be ahead in something.) I’ve been waiting a while to bring these guys up and they are turning out even better than I had hoped. I keep getting more and more ideas.

Now, I wonder what Ugo’s plan is for this guy?

Celebration

I really had loads and loads of fun doing this strip. First, I had been looking forward to introducing the Baro to you guys for months. The final design for them is virtually unchanged from my prototype sketches. Sometimes it just works out that way. The pencils went well (which isn’t always the case) – feeling a lot better about John lately. And it was just a ton of fun coloring it. (Which took something like twice the normal amount of time.)

Hopefully their little celebration gives you some insight into how unique these fellows are. Do you think there’s more inside? Let’s hope so!
