I’m happy to report that I’ve made good progress this week. Yesterday I finished my big “story map” and when I got home I ran through the whole thing for my wife. She liked it and found no major holes. (In fact, she said “I feel like I just saw a movie!”) I still have to break it down a bit more but that’s just detail work now. It’s going to be long, my guess is somewhere between 75-85 pages, maybe more. That means around 10 months. It’s definitely a big story, but one that I feel good about. I’m hoping it’s the best one yet.
Really, I kind of think of it as a Marooned graphic novel. There’s a fairly good chance that my next book will be this story.
I’ve been able to do some sketching and other prep I need to do as well. Today I’m beginning to pencil the first strip, so plan on stopping by on Monday, the 11th as planned for the first comic in the story. (Useless side note – it will be strip #277.)
See you there, and I think I can promise you that you’ll be surprised – maybe even shocked – at the first strip!

Looking forward to it!
I think I speak for a lot of us Tom when I say, “bring it on!”
Looking forward to Monday!
Hey Tom -
Why don’t you delay posting for two or three weeks, and build up a nice buffer? That way you can be ahead of the game, and if something comes up, can still post on a regular basis.
-Paul
@Paul – Two or three more weeks with no Marooned?! We’re already going through withdrawal symptoms here!
I’m going through withdrawal too!
Seriously, I’ve rarely if ever worked with a buffer. In a way, I like the pressure of the deadline, which keeps me on my toes. I’ve not missed more than a few updates in over 3 years, so I’m not too concerned. But if it happens it happens.
I feel like I am pretty well prepared, and that’s always my main goal. And I’m working on Monday’s strip already
Well, it’s good to hear you’re prepared, the last thing I think any of us want is more time without the comic.
It sorta reminds me of what happened with the author of Housepets!, how his computer crashed and it was like two weeks (I think) before he could work on the comic again.
Mind you, I’m sure you wouldn’t have any problem finding people to do guest strips for you, if that ever happened.
