Happy Friday, everyone! It’s been awhile since I posted about my “summer schedule” and the struggles I was having with the strip. I think it’s time for a bit of an update.
Basically, I’m pretty happy with the lowered stress of basically posting strips when I get them done. It has actually resulted in better work on my part, because I am not rushing through the process. Of course, the downside is that there are not as many updates. While I always hope for twice a week, it’s been rare that I can do it lately. I know you want more, but I think that is the way it’s going to continue for at least the near future.
I had mentioned before that I felt that Marooned had kind of “found its audience” as far as numbers go. Since I modified my schedule, my numbers are down a bit, form something like 1500 to 1300 readers (ish). That could be a factor of a few things though, especially readers checking the site less often, and the fact that I stopped advertising. So the truth is, I may not have lost as many readers as the numbers might indicate. But I am happy with the readers that I have, and I am no longer actively pushing to promote the strip anymore. At this point I’m just enjoying telling the story and trying to improve my art.
Regarding the story itself, I hope you are enjoying the drama. I’ll bet you never imagined that there would be an actual ship orbiting Mars – and that Lian would somehow get abducted by whoever is on it! Well, I can promise you a couple more surprises. I am two strips away from #300. I hope to have #299 posted on Monday, in which I reveal Lian’s abductor. Then it works out nicely that in #300, I should have another surprise for you as well.
Regarding printing another Marooned book, I don’t think there is a lot of interest in that right now. My plan is to wait until the current storyline is completely finished before I decide what to do about that. It’s possible I might consider doing a real “omnibus” printed edition at that time, although the appeal of something like that for people who already have the first two books might not be very high. I think if I do another book, it has to have some other compelling content besides pinups or guest art this time around. I’ll have to think about that. Also there’s a good chance I will try and print the book using Kickstarter the next time around. It seems to be working fairly well for other artists.
Anyway, any comments on all this are welcome.
That’s all for now, see you next week and thanks for reading!

As long as the RSS feed is functioning, I don’t have a big problem with the frequency of postings. There have been a few other comics in the past that have become so infrequent that the new strip doesn’t make sense without going back and reveiwing older posts. As long a Marooned doesn’t slip into that pattern, ie. a month or more between updates, I don’t see a problem.
I love the strip and wouldn’t miss an update! I think we all reallize that web comics are art first, and business second. As an artist, you must keep the spark alive. If you lose interest in what you are doing, we will lose interest. So do want you need to do to keep the muse alive and well.
Thank you for your hard work. You are appreciated!
PS. I personally would be interested in an “omnibus” edition, if one should matterialize.
Thanks for the kind words, Sam!
I’m liking this twist. Good to see Lian back in action too.
