I’m excited to be officially announcing… Out of Orbit – the first Marooned book!
For the last couple weeks I’ve been hard at work organizing what exactly would be in the book, asking artists to help out and preparing material for the book. I wanted to wait to give the official details until I had heard back from everyone and had the book titled.
I’ve made some pretty good progress already. I have quotes back from the printer and specs for the book, and it’s already being prepared (I’m halfway through the strips as we speak.) As you can see, the cover is close to being finished, although there is some tweaking to be done there, as well as creation of the spine and back side.
Steve Ogden has been hard at work on Lian’s story Payload, and he is already on page two. I approved the story over a week ago. I’m on the last page of color work for Green, and I’ve made good progress on the mission log.
There’s still quite a lot of work left to do, but I’ve got a great start. Some of it is already coming together, and I can tell you the book is going to be amazing. I’ve already said it, and I will keep pounding home this point: if you want to guarantee yourself a copy, you’ll want to preorder your book! I won’t be able to order many extra copies.
I’m not sure when preorder will begin, but it will most likely be some time in late September. In the meantime, keep your eye on the Book Progress widget in the left sidebar. I’ll keep it updated so you know how close I am to finishing. In the meantime, you’ll want to head over to the Out of Orbit page and check out all the details, including a couple preview panels of Steve’s Payload. Next week I’ll post the full page one as a preview of the story, you won’t want to miss it!
Visit the Out of Orbit book page for all the supertastic details!

Anxiously awaiting this book!
Love the retro design, Tom! This is gonna be great.
Can I suggest adding a progress update to your RSS feed? I don’t actually stop by the site that often; but it’d be nice to see how far you are on it when I read the comic updates
Thanks guys, and Shelby, I will post updates on non-update days, and all my blog posts hit the feed, just like this one
Ah, but I mean put http://www.maroonedcomic.com/swf/progress.swf in the feed as well
Ah…grasshopper! That’s a good idea. I will have to see if I can do that. I mean I’m sure I can, I’m just not sure if I know how.
This might be useful… http://www.matteoionescu.com/wordpress/embed-html/ Unless you just use the plain text editor for updating…
I don’t think that will work with Flash, but I will have a look. What I can probably do is just snap an image of the swf and include it, which I can easily do. Might not happen this week, but I’ll get it in there.
well you can always try (hope wordpress doesn’t neuter this)

Oops, haha. Well, I’ll help if you need it
Ha, well I have your original one. When I get a chance I will try it. Thanks! I’ll shoot you an email if I need more help
Looking good, seems like you are making great progress!
one thing bugs me for a long time: if it’s a space opera, why are the comic is so undermanned?
operas should be a group thing, with a lot of actors.
Two words: low budget!
Best of luck, Tom! I’d like to see the book when it’s out.
…any chance Robot Monster will make a cameo?
Thanks Hyena – but you’ve lost me – which Robot Monster? Do you mean Bob?
