As I said I’ve been working on getting an updated Lian down. I figured I’d post a picture of some of the sketches I’ve been doing. The picture below is 11 pages of sketches, which is probably only about 60% of the sketching I’ve done to try and get her face and head (as well as her other parts) properly worked out. It was only Thursday that I started actually feeling I was getting close.
This is the kind of sketching I should do all the time, but I lack the time to do it. (You see doing this resulted in missing an update). Drawing something hundreds of times really helps you work it out.

Yeah, you may have missed an update, but I think you’ll agree this is the sort of preproduction work you need to do for the strip to be better overall. Most people scrimp on this part of the process, and it shows. Your strip will show that you did the right thing. Roll on, baby.
Yeah, I agree. I could probably stand to do more. I think I will probably take a break during the holiday season, and I will be doing more then too. Thanks Og!
Now I remember why I didn’t want to be an artist–boring, repetitive stuff like this…
Heh, well it’s not boring. It’s work though. It’s both frustrating and enjoyable at the same time. Always remember artists are a little nuts.
Wowzers! I wish I’d done a little more of this earlier on in TOACM — in the first few comics w/ Joey and Penelope they each looked different strip to strip. ‘Grats to you for put’in the efforts my friend! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Thanks Denver! For the record, you stuff looks pretty consistent to me. But I know what you mean. Had I known more, I would have done a lot of this before I ever began a strip.
Hindsight and all that jazz…
