Regular readers know of my love for all things Peanuts, especially the holiday specials. Today the official trailer was released for the next movie that is coming out on DVD called “Happiness Is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown.”

This is tricky, because this is the first special done without Charles Schulz and Bill Melendez. Apparently the Schulz family worked hard to keep the film true to the originals. Honestly, some of the later specials/movies had gotten pretty bad, so there was definitely room for improvement. Maybe some new blood is actually a good thing.

It’s pretty clear to me that the animation is done in Flash, or in a Flash-like manner. But the trailer looks pretty good. The character designs are very close, although they lack a little of the charm of some of the earlier drawings by Melendez. However I think the digital production will allow for some better consistency.

They certainly have the look right, the music sounds good and the voices well cast. I recognize most of the strips from which the story in the film takes place. I’m definitely looking forward to buying this and giving it a viewing. Here’s the trailer.
