96 – Hallucinating

Those are some big fireflies.

Previously on Marooned…

While attempting to send a message to Earth, John fell ill. He returned to the Martian sanctuary Vita to administer antibiotics, which made him worse. Ugo is now bringing him to the Volotrum, his only remaining chance to be healed.

The last time we heard mention of the Volotrum – the “Dark Ones” – was when Dr. Ugofandian spoke of going to see them in Unbelievable Adventures #2.

    This is a great one, Tom. Love the trails on the critters, and the rockin’ light effects on the firemarble.

    Well, Master Og is the one who instructed me on how to do the lighting effects. If I find time, I’ll do a little tutorial on how I did it, but here’s the quick and dirty:

    - Add a Linear Dodge (Add) layer and fill with black. This is on top of all layers, including line art. You won’t see anything.

    - Using lighter colors and a soft brush, with low opacity and flow, I began drawing in the light trails basic light flow.

    - Then I grabbed a hard brush with spacing and pen pressure, made it a dual brush (which helped me get the “sparkles”) and did the same thing.

    - Went back and glowed up the “butts” in the same manner as the first.

    For Ugo’s light, it’s not much different except I’m using different brushes and color. You play around with brushes and opacities/flow til you get the effect you want. Lots of trial and error.

    lol. I know that feeling :) Every time I get sick I end up by hallucinating. Damn NyQuil.

    John is clearly not holding up well at this point. When did Ugo start wearing a toga? I think it’s a good look for him ;)

    That is a really nice light trail effect. Makes me want to start coloring my comics again, if my brain wouldn’t melt from the strain.

    Thanks Eldon. I know, it’s a lot of work. I loved your color work though, it’s really great. But there’s only so much time in the day.

    I agree with the others: The glowing effects are just awsone and give the comic a realistic feeling of beeing in a cavern.
