Friday Fandom: Galaxion, Gunnerkrigg Court, Originals and More
on February 27th, 2009Happy Friday. Let’s get to some fandom fun. First off, a great Sci-fi comic that has been around for some time by the super nice Tara Tallon is Galaxion. Tara has actually been working on Galaxion since she was twelve, and it has actually been published in comic book form in the early 90s. She is going strong on the web now though, and is currently reworking the story in some aspects. I have not gotten to read as much of it as I would like, but it’s worth checking out.
“Galaxion is the name of a scientific survey starship owned and operated by the Terran Space Association, and captained by Fusella Mierter . As the story begins, TerSA has made a deal with rival organization Interplanetary Patrol, giving the Galaxion over to General Scavina Nelson to test the new Nelson Drive engine (named after Scavina’s husband, who invented it and disappeared during the first test). While Fusella’s crew retain their positions, Scavina has assumed command of the Galaxion for the duration of the test flight.”
Many thanks to Bachterman for turning me on to Gunnerkrigg Court. Gunnerkrigg is quite an amazing mix of sci-fi and fantasy with spectacularly drawn and colored pages and amazing characters. It’s really hard to describe. It involves this quite interesting school, where the main character Annie Carver and her friend Kat attend. If I try to explain any further, it would take me 10 pages. It took me about a week to read through the archive, but I’m glad I did, it’s one of the best things out there.
Marooned Originals
I’ve mentioned before about selling Marooned original art. The last time there was not much interest. I’d not want to sell them for overly cheap either, just to sell them. So I wonder if there is now (or will ever be) much of a market for them. I can’t imagine my earlier strips being interesting to anyone. And you’d have to keep in mind my originals do not have lettering. Still I’m curious as to your thoughts. I could post a picture of a recent version.
Ashcan Volume 2?
I’m very happy with how the Ashcan comic has been received. The first print is half gone due to sales and promos. I’m pretty sure I want to continue doing it. It will be challenging as some of the comics format gets larger and more varied. But I think I will start on volume 2 soon, just to get it going. I will probably try and add another page to it – which would actually mean 4 extra pages of content. Most likely the price will go up a little due to some things I didn’t take into account this time around (like PayPal fees, backing board cost and the like). But it won’t be a dramatic increase.
Be prepared for something slightly different and unexpected on Monday.
Some Fanart
Lastly a couple pieces of fan art that I received lately. The first is from Jamais Jochim, writer of Sexpercussions at Spider Forest. (WARNING: Some content NSFW and not family friendly). Thanks Jamais for the art.

And this one is from Douglas Keech who does Fake Life. Thanks Doug!
