177 – What If

This one just doesn’t match what’s in my head. Ran out of time again in the color stage, these strips just seem to take longer and longer. I hope to revisit this at some point.

Previously on Marooned…

While attempting to send a message to Earth, John fell ill. Ugo brought him to the Volotrum (also called The Dark Ones), his only remaining chance to be healed. The Listener, an apprentice of the Dark Ones – a human woman named Lian Fisher who crashed on Mars years ago – agreed to heal John. In doing so, she fell into some kind of coma – but returned in the nick of time with miraculous powers to help defeat the lizard-like Krosa. In the battle, Ugo’s wounds have revealed him as some kind of robot or machine, making Captain John more confused than ever!

Hmm, although the colour is slightly different, it’s visually not quite obvious that the guy exclaiming “WHAT?” is not dr. Ugofandian (in that one panel he’s facing the same way and looks almost identical).
Can you say “What if doesn’t work?” Shouldn’t there be an it in there? In the first panel I thought it was a typo, but then it was used throughout, so now I’m left wondering.

Story-wise the whole thing is great, though. I especially like the Geborgan’s lines.

Darn, thanks for pointing that out. I’ll have to fix it. Thanks Sardtok.

Hello! Just wanted to tell you that I’ve read ALL the current series! I found your site via SwagBucks. Really liking the story line so far!

@Coderkid – welcome aboard! Thanks for reading and glad to have you :)

I fixed the text, looks like I copy/pasted the error in two spots. Doh. That’s what hurrying gets you.

I do realize the colors between Ugofandian and Egondel (the speaking councilor) are very close. On the one hand it’s kind of meant to be that way. I may adjust it a little.

The plot thickens . . . Looks like Dr. Ugofandian recognizes the eternal truth that you should never do anything with out a “Plan B.” Good job in panel five with the expression on the Doctor’s colleague. He looks like a complete snot . . . Follow up in panel six tops it off well.

I didn’t realize how much I missed the Geborga. I am very interested in the albino Martian with the orange garments, he looks kinda important like.

  7. Major Tom

@Mike – I think you got a good read there on his colleague.

@Splox – Ah my most astute reader chimes in! He does look important, don’t he?

Hey, a geborga with arms? That’s new, isn’t it?
    Those look cybernetic, but still.

  9. Major Tom

They’ve always had two appendages. It’s not the greatest staging on my part (I should have drawn him back a little so you can see it better) but he is leaning to one side and lifting his left appendage to gesture.

Their appendages act as both feet and arms. They’re pretty deft dudes.

Still missing an “it” in the upper right panel…

  13. Major Tom

    Gah, thanks Hagar.

The first panel sort of throws me. The scale looks all out of whack and for some reason i keep seeing them as little guys sitting on a shelf somewhere instead of an executive council hall.

  15. Major Tom

Yeah, I can see that. It’s tricky for me to draw these guys small, this is as small as I can go. It’s probably a product of that.
