John made his speech in “All We’ve Got,” although Lian actually heard it a few strips before.
Previously on Marooned…
While attempting to send a message to Earth, John fell ill. Ugo brought him to the Volotrum (also called The Dark Ones), his only remaining chance to be healed. The Listener, an apprentice of the Dark Ones – a human woman named Lian Fisher who crashed on Mars years ago – agreed to heal John. In doing so, she fell into some kind of coma – but returned in the nick of time with miraculous powers to help defeat the lizard-like Krosa. In the battle, Ugo’s wounds have revealed him as some kind of robot or machine, making Captain John more confused than ever!

Deal.
Nice little emotional beat there.
Thanks Og!
I like the touching nature of this one.
Wit’s right about that. I know it can be hard to slow down and let the characters have a moment like this – you feel like you should end on a joke or something more exciting. But this is a poignant moment, and I’m glad you took the time to let it breathe.
Thanks guys. Yeah, I really did not want to force a joke in this one. I’m okay with taking a moment to breathe, too. Plus forcing jokes for me usually means jokes that aren’t funny. I prefer the humor to come from the characters as naturally as possible.
I like how Lian looks in panels three and seven, and panel four is awesome.
Thanks Splox! I have to say 7 panels ends up being a lot of work. You don’t realize that even though it’s the same amount of space as if I did only 4, all the extra “takes” of the characters in there makes for a long haul. So I’m glad you guys like it.
Sometimes I think fondly back to the days when every strip was only 4 panels!
well put, by Og and Wit. I concur! *gives gold star*
“Wipes away tear . . .” I’m not crying. I’ve just got something in my eye . . . Seriously though, nice change up in pacing. I like the interaction between John and Lian. John’s character seems to be rounding out more and more as time goes on. Are we going to see Asimov’s soft side next? Or is “fuzzy logic” the closest he can come to having one. Looking forward to finding out.
Thanks you guys. Asimov a soft side? Well, we haven’t seen one yet… although the closest he’s gotten to soft was with Ril
Wow it was just that easy eh. A little heart to hear between the humans and an amicable good bye. But where’s the hug? We’ve gotta have a hug!
I don’t think Lian is in the mental state yet that allows her to hug John. And John is too insecure to try it
….’don’T call me…I call you!’ …
he’s gonna end up being sad in a bar, drinking space booze …while ril, ugo and asimov gotta save the day again…
Kirk never got turned down lol…
