100 – The Dark Ones

I’ve literally been waiting months to show you guys the Dark Ones. I believe I developed them sometime before Christmas. Strange looking fellows, no? Obviously this is strip #100 as well, and it’s no coincidence the big reveal was on this strip. It was nice it worked out that way.

Previously on Marooned…

While attempting to send a message to Earth, John fell ill. He returned to the Martian sanctuary Vita to administer antibiotics, which made him worse. Ugo has now brought him to the Volotrum, his only remaining chance to be healed.

The last time we heard mention of the Volotrum – the “Dark Ones” – was when Dr. Ugofandian spoke of going to see them in Unbelievable Adventures #2.

I find it hard to believe that creatures without opposable thumbs evolved to be so intelligent :) Congrats on the milestone btw!

    Great 200th strip! Congratulations!

  3. George

My bad! I got my own stuff banging around my head on a Monday morning.

What an achievement – 100 strips!

You are an inspiration to all of us, but me especially!

So the Dark Ones are finally here! I’m getting feint overtones of Snuffle-upagus.

    Are they related?

All good stuff, keep it up!

    Darren

@Sal – Hehe, well they’re very ingenious. And wait to you see their society – maybe it’s not what you expect.

    @George – thanks! I hope to get to 200 :)

@Darren – very kind of you, and too funny about Snuffleupagus! Thank goodness I didn’t make them purple!

@Bear and Mike – thanks guys!

Happy 100th, Tom! You should be proud of yourself. I bet when you were on your 25th, you never dreamt where the strip would lead you.

The D.O. look GREAT! It’s nice that your style and abilities have evolved to this point in time for such a reveal.

    Roll on next 100!

Wow. That warder looks really cool. The last panel is really neat, you can tell he has a slow lope; he’s really alive.

    Congratulations on #100!

  18. tdellaringa

    Thanks Danny! :)

  19. Og

I agree – the Dark Ones look very alive. You really get a feeling of a slow, ponderous gait. Excellent work, Tom.

And, HEY- the Dark Ones show up on episode 100!! Boy, it’s almost like you planned it or something…

  20. tdellaringa

Hehe – yeah, the plan worked out just fine.. who knew. :)

  21. tpiro

  23. Evan

Congratulations! 100 is quite a body of work. Here’s to hundreds more!

Also, the Volotrum are way cooler than I envisioned them. 3 legs? Awesome!

  24. Evan

    This is SO GOOD!

  25. tdellaringa

Thanks guys! I figured it was about time 3-legged creatures got some love.

@Evan D. – Coming from the master story weaver, that means a lot, thanks!

Hey what are the chances of two guys named Evan, who are both cartoonists, commenting back to back? Too funny.
